About Me

About Me

A lifelong advocate for social justice issues especially racial and gender equity, I became an interdisciplinary cultural historian specializing in the history of race, race relations and structural racism, gender and sexuality and the role of visibility in media and arts as a force for social change. In my public speaking, I help make complex issues accessible, relevant, and engaging with a combination of deep research, innovative multi-media elements and a palpable passion for my subject. I have taught at universities, lectured at museums, public libraries and community organizations and led trainings and tours on historical topics with a focus on historically marginalized individuals and groups including those from BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ communities and others too often left out of history books.

I have given talks and led workshops at Yale University, Marist College, The Mariners' Museum, Heritage Farmstead Museum, Arlington Museum of Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Allen Public Library and presented my research at numerous conferences nationwide including for the Organization of American Historians, the American Historical Association, the American Studies Association and the Southwest Popular Culture Association, among others.

I hold a Ph.D. in American Studies from Yale University, an M.A. in American Studies from The College of William and Mary and a B.A. in Art History from Smith College.  I have taught history and American Studies at Yale University, Ramapo College and the University of Texas at Dallas.

I am currently a writer, researcher and historian living in Dallas, Texas.
